U0212 FORD - Lost Communication With Steering Column Control Module
I'm screwed now! Nothing that has a steering wheel control of any sort works now, a chat discussion last night pointed out a possible FCM issue, but there's too much FCM stuff that still works, and the U and U are steering wheel control module and angle position sensor - I think my steering wheel is off the grid What ARE my chances? Stay tuned!! Is there one modual that controls the wheel that may crapped out?
Good luck finding a dealer man. Fully tubbed out with Roll Cage. Pics in numerous threads! Sounds to me like an issue with the SCCM or it's connector on the column. The Pins can spread open and cause an intermitent connection, or if you move the column often a wire to the connector may break.
Now a dealer in VT. I was just at the training center and I happened to be in a class with a tech from VT not to mention he's been in the same class or at the training center for training the same day as me the past few times and from talking to him, it seems like his shop is very good.
He himself primarily works on trucks at his dealer, but his coworkers sound good. Doesn't hurt to gve them a try. Foster Motors, Very interesting problem indeed - almost to the point of being able to call it "intermittent" at this point. I'd bet I can go out right now and try it, and I'll have a blinker start when I flip the key.
Me, not being fooled at all, tried everything 50 or 60 times, cause it ain't fixed, I just know it. Stopped failing, so I closed the hood and left it sit for a brew and help my Dad work on the deck. This can happen for multiple reasons and a mechanic needs to diagnose the specific cause for this code to be triggered in your situation.
Our certified mobile mechanics can come to your home or office to perform the Check Engine Light diagnostic. The P code means that the engine is or was overheating and should be turned off as soon as possible. Most engines have an engine coolant temperature sensor that sends a voltage reading to the powertrain control module which converts that into a temperature.
A leak in the cooling system from parts, such as the radiator, thermostat housing, radiator hoses, heater hoses, water pump, head gasket, or the engine itself. A message displayed that indicates that engine power has been reduced on vehicles with fail-safe cooling systems. Coolant may explode out of any part of the cooling system if the system has become over pressurized.
A mechanic may diagnose the P code by checking the coolant level and inspecting the cooling system for any obvious damages such as cracks and leaks. If no obvious issues are found, the mechanic would then run a cooling system pressure test to help locate any leaks that may exist.
A leak found during this test would likely cause the P code and would need to be repaired before any further diagnosis may take place. If no leaks are found in the cooling system, the mechanic would then check the operation of the electric cooling fans or fan clutch. If the fans are not working properly, fuses and relays may be checked to resolve the issue if the fan is electric.
If the fan is not working and is not electric, the fan clutch would likely be replaced. If the electric fan is inoperative, the fuse, relay or fan itself may require replacement. As long as no issues are found with the operation of the cooling fan, the mechanic would then use an infrared thermometer to check the cooling system for hot spots.
Hot spots that exist in the cooling system indicate that the cooling system has a restriction in it. A cooling system restriction can only be corrected by replacing the part that has the restriction or is running a high pressure coolant flush on the vehicle. If no hot spots are found, the problem may lie with the coolant temperature sensor or the powertrain control module. A common mistake that could be made is replacing the coolant temperature sensor before thoroughly checking each component for leaks.
When a P code is stored, the chances of it being a false alarm are very slim. The P code is very serious. Engine overheating can result in engine failure. Anyone with an overheating condition should consider this very serious and should act as soon as possible to correct the issue and prevent further damage.
Repairing a coolant leak by replacing parts such as the radiatorthermostat housing, radiator hosesheater hoseswater pumphead gasket, thermostator heater core. Replacing the coolant temperature sensor. Replacing the powertrain control module. Running a high pressure coolant flush on the vehicle. In order to avoid getting a P code, it is a good idea to keep up with your basic vehicle maintenance. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit. The leak detection pump is part of the evaporative emissions system. This system tests the fuel system to make sure it is not leaking fuel vapors into the air.
The system pulls a vacuum on the fuel system and holds it for a period of time.

Indicator and headlight bulbs need regular maintenance for them to keep functioning properly. Also the car paint ought to be in good condition because that reduces the chances of rust taking over the body of your car. This is one of those car maintenance problems, which are easy to handle, given the variety and quality of products available in the market today.
The U Dodge check engine lamp is perhaps the most troubling of lights because it could mean so many different things, from you didn't screw the gas cap on tightly enough to look out for pistons flying through the hood and into the stratosphere. The easiest way to find out what this light is telling you is to hook your vehicle up to a scan tool. OBD 2 diagnostic tool looks a little like an oversized calculator and plugs into a communication port inside the car.
After you instruct it to perform the scan, it speaks with your car's computers to find out exactly what's prompting the light to turn on.

Cluster failure and code UA. My gauge cluster on my '05 Mag RT has been cutting out intermittently for about 2 yrs. It sometimes goes months without acting up and then all of a sudden does it a bunch of times in a row. Thanks to a previous post from Funky, I see that UA is a loss of communication issue, but it doesn't really give me clear cut info on the exact problem.
I know there are many others out there having this problem, many haven't gotten it bad enough to get this code thrown, but some others have. Does anyone know the surefire fix? I can't afford to be a dealer service guinea pig.
P0217 OBD-II Trouble Code: Engine Overheat Condition
One piece of information that may or may not be important, but if the headlights are in the auto position, this problem will turn the lights off and not let them back on again until i toggle the switch off and back to auto or on. I'm hoping the headlight switch isn't powered through the gauge cluster and that little piece of info will prove that the gauge cluster isn't the problem but that it's something else.
Loss of comm usually means a connector is to blame, first step would be to pull and inspect the connectors in this case, the headlight switch and the cluster module for damage, or a pin that has been shoved back, then reseat them. If that doesnt fix it, then the PITA job of looking over the whole harness for pinch points. Let me re-phrase I guess The service manual says I need a scan tool in order to diagnose any further. Has anyone had the dealer use a scan tool on a car with an intermittent gauge cluster and code UA?
If so, what did they determine and are you satisfied that it's truly fixed now? Hey your problem is the same one I have been having for 2 years word for word.Join Date: Jun Location: Florida.
Posts: Help with P It has around miles on the clock. I bought it new from at least the third dealer I know it has been at. It was at a dealer on the west coast of Florida and a dealer on the east coast of Florida.
It was driven from Miami to Clearwater for me to buy it. It really doesn't appear to me to be new but it only had miles on the clock. Can the digital odometer be rolled back? Just wondering Anyway, I get some strange noises on occasion from the engine compartment.
Sometimes when I push the AC button on it makes a kinda clunk noise. Also, I noticed a clicking noise when I let the engine idle down and the longer the engine idles the quieter the clicking noise gets. Sometimes I don't hear the clicking at all. Since I don't know anything about diesels I am kinda out there. I learned how to check for codes here and to my disappointment it showed a P I checked the code list and P wasn't listed. I'd try my other key first.
My questions are: What is the "PCM"? I see it mentioned all the time but not what it stands for or what it does. What is "SKIM" and what does it do? I would really appreciate someone helping a newbie understand the code and it's affect on the operation of the vehicle.
I am leaving for Key West this weekend pulling a travel trailer and don't want to end up camping on the side of the highway. Thanx, nod ps Sponsored links. Re: Help with P In the quote above it mentioned "It's on page in the pdf manual".
Could someone point me to the Manual? Location: N. SKIM is the anti-theft key. I got a different code for my SKIM but what the dealer said is the truck was started before the red security light on the inst. Don't worry about it. As far as the other stuff, there'sno telling.
Take it to the dealer if it's not running right. I am just going to drive it and enjoy pulling the camper.Great dealership to work with. Quickly responded. Great group of people! Honest, kind, no games, up front, helpful, down to earth type of folks.
I met most of the folks. Michael was the salesperson I worked with. Wish all salesman were like him!

I inquired about this vehicle and received a return phone call very quickly. Unfortunately, we could not come to terms on this vehicle.
I would rate Daniell Motors very high for a speedy, courteous response. Great guys to work with. I was looking for a specific vehicle, at a specific price range. They worked with me and got me what I needed. Very professional and odie helped me find the right truck I was looking for with no pressure at all we looked and test drove a couple trucks before we found the right one.
Would definitely return and purchase a truck here again I found these people extremely helpful and would buy from them in a heartbeat if they would have had we wanted.
Great experience! We purchased the car sight unseen. They completely honest on the condition of the car. Would recommend them to anyone. Nice people very helpful I was only looking and still have other issues to deal with before buying another vehicle.
My salesman, John, was amazing! When I had mechanical concerns, they took the vehicle with me to a mechanic. When I mentioned it needed new tires, they also threw in a great deal too.
I am so happy with my purchase and will recommend them to anyone! I got a great deal from the guys at Dishman Dodge. Good people, all of them. No BS, I highly recommend them. Worked with JC Grogan to purchase this vehicle, he and the rest of the staff made it a very pleasant experience! I really appreciate the quick response I received for my questions and follow ups regarding appointments.
